Okay, so this is a project I’ve been working on recently with my father. Being able to live outside in the elements and still be completely self reliant is key to achieving freedom from society and making the most of Van life. Because of the outside lifestyle and likely-hood of being in close proximatey of other people, it was realised that creating a sound proof enclosure would avoid annoying other vanlifers. The idea is that it can be something that will not move around in the van, and look nice at the same time. This meant that practicality and aesthetics are key. We are using a marine ply frame with castor wheels for easy movement, sound proof insulation to decrease noise pollution, and creating a locking mechanism to avoid theft. This will be coated in an ebony stain to protect it from the elements.
The actual construction wont take long, however, aquiring the funds this close to christmas and getting the generator itself might take a while. We have aquired most of the materials needed, including vents that will contribute to keeping it cool while running.
There are many pre-made boxes on the market, including my favorite (And somewhat basis for our original design) called the zombie box. I find it interesting that preppers have jumped on this idea since it wouldn’t take long for a zombie to hear the noise and realise that there are people about. I will probably request the assistance of my girlfriend who we will call Engel for now, to make the box look aesthetic in the van, considering it will be fairly bulky and have to remain inside while travelling. She has a great eye for detail and I’m sure that whatever she comes up with will be fucking cool!
It will make festival going a whole lot easier being able to set up the generator and using the vans heating facillaties, considering most of the countries we intend on going will be fucking cold and un-forgiving.
